The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. Isa 40:8

1 corinthians 6, bought at a price

Read 1 Corinthians 6 at Bible Gateway.

My notes on the first six chapters of 1 Cor: the major points of chapter 6 are introduced in chapters 1-5 in reverse order:

1a) 1 Cor 1, Let him who glories, glory in the LORD;
1b) 1 Cor 2, The things freely given to us by God;
1c) 1 Cor 2:12, We have received the Spirit who is from God;
1d) 1 Cor 3:16, Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?;
1e) 1 Cor 5:1-11, It is reported that there is sexual immorality among you … put him away from you;
1f) 1 Cor 5:12-13, Not we but God judges those outside, we judge those inside;
central axis) 1 Cor 6:1-8, Resolving wrongs within the church, not before unbelievers;
2f) 1 Cor 6:9-13a, The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom;
2e) 1 Cor 6:13b-18, Flee sexual immorality, the only sin committed against the body;
2d) 1 Cor 6:19a, Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit;
2c) 1 Cor 6:19b, Whom you have from God;
2b) 1 Cor 6:19c-20a, And you are not your own, for you were bought at a price;
2a) 1 Cor 6:20b, Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

You were bought at a price, therefore honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:20

One major theme is the process of sanctification. Salvation happens in a point of time; sanctification happens over the lifetime. Salvation results in a new creation (2 Cor 5:17). That new creation will not continue to live like the old. The differences between believers and unbelievers. Believers will begin to give evidence of their belief by a lifestyle of increasing righteousness, for the Holy Spirit has come to live within him. Unbelievers will remain in a lifestyle of unrighteousness. Not everyone within the church is a believer, but “you will know them by their fruits,” (Mat 7:16). If you are a believer, then your lifestyle should also bear witness to that fact. Do not reject the Torah, but the wise man learns and studies the Torah, as the only reliable plumb line of righteousness in a crooked and perverse world (Pro 13:1).
